The first SUV in the history of the Porsche brand, named Cayenne (a variety of hot West Indian pepper), debuted in early autumn 2002. The car was created jointly by Dr. Ing. h. With. F. Porsche AG and Volkswagen AG. Volkswagen engineers designed the all-wheel drive transmission, and Porsche specialists designed the suspension and took on the work of fine-tuning the chassis. Almost after the start of official sales, Cayenne became one of the brand's bestsellers, despite its rather high price. Production (more precisely, final assembly, since the body is made at the Bratislava plant) of the car was launched at Porsche's new ultra-modern plant in Leipzig.

The design of the Cayenne is made in the same vein as the sports models of the Porsche 911. Among the characteristic features of the model are: teardrop-shaped headlights, an integrated front bumper with large air intakes, extended “muscular” fenders and low-profile tires on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. All versions of the first years of production (Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo) differ in design nuances. For example, the top Turbo version has a higher hood compared to other versions with additional stampings for turbochargers and a double central air intake.

Overall dimensions, mm: Cayenne and Cayenne S -4782x1928x1699, Cayenne Turbo -4786x1928x1699. Wheelbase, mm: 2855. Ground clearance, mm: basic suspension - 217; air suspension - from 157 to 273.

The interior of the car is made in the best traditions of Porsche. A lot of high-quality leather, certainly embossed with the company logo, auxiliary systems and electronic settings. Aluminum and metallized plastic are widely used in the design (pedals, center console, gear selector frame, door handles), which gives the interior a sporty charm. On the Cayenne, the dials are complemented by a large central display. This multi-function instrument provides basic information including a digital speedometer, digital clock, daily driving odometer and current radio station selection.

The seats are comfortable and equipped with a full range of electrical adjustments. There is plenty of space for second-row passengers, both in width and legroom. The rear seat folds in a 40:60 ratio, forming a flat luggage compartment floor, the volume of which increases from 540 to 1,770 liters.

The Cayenne has power windows on the front and rear doors. If a special sensor detects an obstacle when closing a window, it automatically lowers the glass to prevent injury or damage. If several windows are open, they can all be closed at the same time by keeping the key in the locked position.

Optional equipment on the Cayenne includes a new 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel. On the left side there are buttons designed to regulate the sound and control all audio systems and the telephone. On the right are keys with which you can receive calls, select radio stations or CD tracks.

The Porsche monocoque body, however, is reinforced with front and rear subframes, which reduces vibration levels.

The suspension is fully independent at the front with double wishbones and multi-link at the rear. For the basic version of the Cayenne with a V6 engine, there is an option with conventional springs without adjusting the ground clearance, and for the Cayenne Turbo, as standard (as an option for the Cayenne and Cayenne S), it is equipped with an air suspension that allows you to change the ground clearance in the range from 157 to 273 mm. Thanks to the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, you can adjust the ride smoothness, for which there are three modes - Comfort, Normal, Sport.

Transmission scheme: permanent all-wheel drive with center differential with electronic locking and range-of-multiplier, optional rear differential lock. In normal operation, the differential distributes torque in a ratio of 33:62, but if the wheels of the front or rear axle slip, the clutch redistributes it between the axles from 0:100 to 100:0, depending on road conditions. If the wheels of one of the axles slip, the PSM dynamic stabilization system comes into effect, and on off-road conditions you can use the lower row of the transmission and forcefully lock the central differential.

Porsche has created a new braking system based on the latest technology. The Cayenne is equipped with internally ventilated discs to ensure constant braking temperatures and therefore has optimal dynamic performance, even during long descents. The front discs are clamped by 6-piston monobloc aluminum calipers, which are complemented by 4-piston calipers at the rear. All four calipers have a titanium lacquer coating.

The Cayenne meets all existing requirements for all types of impact protection, including frontal, side, diagonal and rear impacts, as well as rollover protection. The body has a triple skin structure. The laser-welded, robust structure provides exceptional rigidity and occupant protection, especially thanks to the extremely strong roof and pillars. A system of side and cross members at the front of the vehicle helps redirect impact energy, which is absorbed by the 3-section crumple zone, protecting the interior. One of the special characteristics of the Cayenne is the use of multiphase steel. Offering a unique combination of exceptional rigidity and durable resistance to deformation, these resilient alloys satisfy key safety requirements.

The Cayenne has 2-phase airbags for the driver and front passenger. The front airbags are complemented by a new side impact protection system with side airbags mounted in each front seat. Curtain airbags provide optimal head protection for both rows of seats. Two additional sensors are installed in the Cayenne's front bumper to detect potential head impact hazards. The airbags have a two-level gas inflation feature to reduce the load on passengers. Both front airbags deploy an azide-free gas, which is based on organic fuel.

The Cayenne has 3-point seat belts, as well as belt pretensioners and force limiters.

Passive safety is extremely important, especially when it comes to children. That's why Porsche has developed a special range of child seats for all age groups. Each seat can be installed in the front passenger seat or in the rear seats using standard ISOFIX mountings.

The base Porsche Cayenne is equipped with a 3.2 l/250 hp engine. The Cayenne S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 340-horsepower 4.5-liter unit. This engine develops a maximum torque of 420 Nm at 2500-5500 rpm. Acceleration to “hundreds” takes 7.2 seconds, and the top speed is 242 km/h. The top version of the Cayenne Turbo has a 4.5 liter engine equipped with two turbochargers and producing 450 hp. The maximum torque of 620 Nm develops at 2250-4750 rpm. With it, the car accelerates to “hundreds” in 5.6 seconds, and its top speed is 266 km/h. In addition, the Cayenne Turbo is offered with an optional Power Kit package, with which the engine power increases to 500 hp. The future owner can choose between a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission.

In January 2006, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It is built on the basis of the Cayenne Turbo. The key difference is the boost to 512 hp. engine. This result was achieved by installing a larger intercooler, as well as increasing the boost pressure by 0.2 atmospheres. In addition to increasing engine power, these measures also made it possible to raise the maximum torque to 720 Nm, which is already achieved at 2750 rpm. The Cayenne Turbo S accelerates from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 5.2 seconds, and its top speed reaches 270 kilometers per hour.

Following the engine, Porsche specialists modified the SUV's braking system, installing 380 mm brake discs at the front instead of 350 mm, and replacing 330 mm at the rear with 358 mm. In addition, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S already has 20-inch wheels with low-profile tires as standard equipment.

The equipment of the top version of the SUV now also includes bi-xenon headlights, leather trim, a powerful audio system and even a tire pressure monitoring system.

In 2010, at the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche showed the second generation Cayenne. The car is created on the Volkswagen Touareg platform, using Panamera components. The SUV has become slightly larger than its predecessor. The length of the model has increased by 40 mm, but the weight has decreased by 165-200 kg (depending on version and configuration).

The exterior design is made in the same vein as the first generation of the model. However, the Cayenne II looks more dynamic and muscular (wedge-shaped silhouette, special shape of the rear pillar, bulges on the rear spoiler, rear window tapering at the bottom, etc.). The 2010 model features smaller air intakes and redesigned headlights and rear lights.

The interior has been completely redesigned, with the dashboard and center console inspired by the Panamera. The rear seat can be adjusted - tilt the backrest by 6 degrees and move it by 16 cm. At the same time, the Cayenne 2010 has increased trunk volume compared to previous models (670 liters versus the former 550 liters).

Under the hood is a modified 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine with a power of 300 hp, with fuel consumption improved by 20%. In the combined cycle, a car with such an engine consumes 9.9 liters per 100 km. This was achieved thanks to special developments - a direct gasoline injection system and a system of continuously variable valve timing control at the intake and exhaust. The Cayenne S version is equipped with a 4.8 liter V8 engine with a power of 400 hp, and the Cayenne Turbo version uses the same engine, but with twin turbocharging, with a power of 500 hp. Both V8 versions have become 23% more economical.

The diesel 3.0-liter V6 engine, which debuted on the Porsche Cayenne in 2009, migrated to the new model without changes - power 239 hp, torque 550 Nm, but due to the installation of a new gearbox, acceleration time to 100 km/h reduced to 7.8 seconds. Fuel consumption was reduced to 7.4 liters per 100 km.

The 2010 Porsche Cayenne is also available for the first time in a hybrid version (Cayenne S Hybrid), which consists of a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine from Volkswagen with 333 hp and a 45.5 hp electric motor. The total power of the hybrid is 380 “horses”, and the maximum torque is 580 Nm, and 580 “Newtons” can be obtained already at 1000 rpm. Maximum speed 242 km/h, acceleration to “hundreds” in 6.5 seconds. The average fuel consumption of such a car will be 8.2 liters per 100 km. The price to pay for efficiency is a reduction in trunk volume by 90 liters.

The transmission is an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic, which is paired with a stop-start system. A manual 6-speed transmission is offered only for the entry-level version with a 3.6 liter engine.

All cars are equipped with the Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive system, which has become the hallmark of the manufacturer. It combines active all-wheel drive with electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, traction control, and simulated cross-axle differential locks.

Porsche Cayenne is the perfect combination of excellent off-road qualities and excellent dynamics.

The most profitable automobile company in the world, Porsche, which specialized in the production of luxury sports cars, together with Volkswagen in 2002 turned its attention to such a segment of the automobile market as SUVs.

It should be noted that the first representative of SUVs from Porsche received popular recognition and over time became quite popular among admirers of luxury cars. The first Porsche Cayenne cars appeared on the roads in early 2003, becoming the heir to the sporting traditions of the Porsche 911 and at the same time capturing the off-road consumer sector.

Porsche Cayenne

To create a completely new car, Porsche, together with Volkswagen AG, designed and developed a powerful platform designed for a longitudinal engine and independent suspension. The transmission was developed by Volkswagen technical staff, and the suspension and handling of the car fell entirely on the shoulders of Porsche. The result of the work done was the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, which to this day are the leaders in domestic sales in the off-road vehicle segment.

The Cayenne, with its design, was reminiscent of sports cars from Porsche and at the same time was much more massive and had both high-speed and off-road qualities. In the first years of the car's production, consumers were presented with three versions Porsche Cayenne, Porsche CayenneS And Porsche Cayenne Turbo. They were slightly different both visually and in their content. For example, the top version of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, in addition to visual differences in the structure of the air intakes and hood, was slightly larger in size than the Porsche Cayenne S and the base model.

Dimensions of Porsche Cayenne:

  • length 4782 mm (4786 for Turbo);
  • width 1928mm;
  • height 1699mm;
  • ground clearance 217 mm (for air suspension from 157 to 273 mm).

As can be seen from the dimensions of this model, it has become quite comfortable for the movement of five adult passengers with cargo, unlike previous Porsche models, where there was only room for two passengers.

The interior of the Porsche Cayenne is made in the best traditions of luxury cars from Porsche. Lots of leather aluminum and metallized plastic. Everything looks very expensive and rich. At the same time, Cayenne has retained its purely sporty style, which gives it even more charm.

The center console with its multifunction display, which displays all the information the driver needs, is also very elegantly finished with metal components. Comfortable seats with a full range of electrical adjustments and a multifunctional steering wheel with the ability to control all car audio systems. If we add to this the window sensors and other newfangled functions, then there can be no complaints about the comfort of this car. Ergonomics at the highest level.

Specifications Porsche Cayenne

The base model of the Porsche Cayenne was equipped with a 3.2 liter engine producing 250 horsepower. The Porsche Cayenne S and Porsche Cayenne Turbo models had more powerful 4.5-liter units with 340 and 450 hp. respectively. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo engine equipped with turbochargers allows the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 266 km/h. It is possible to install a Power Kit package on the Turbo version of the car, which increases engine power to 500 horsepower.

The models were equipped with both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic, at the consumer's choice. Permanent all-wheel drive with electronic locking in normal mode distributes torque in a ratio of 33:62, and in case of slipping there is the possibility of redistribution from 0 to 100.

The car body, reinforced with subframes, significantly reduces the level of vibration while driving, and the completely independent front suspension of the Porsche Cayenne and multi-link rear suspension make driving the car on any terrain profile convenient and comfortable. For the basic version of the model, an option with conventional springs is used, but the Porsche Cayenne Turbo is equipped with an air suspension with the ability to adjust ground clearance from 157 to 273 mm, as well as set a choice of one of the ride modes - Normal, Comfort or Sport.

The technical characteristics of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo suggest that in addition to excellent speed qualities, the off-road component of this model is developed at the proper level.

The new braking system from Porsche allows the vehicle to remain stable during emergency braking, even at speeds above 100 km/h.

Porsche Cayenne 2

The second generation Cayenne was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. The Porsche 958 Cayenne is 48 mm longer than its predecessor, and the wheelbase is 40 mm wider. Despite the increase in dimensions, the weight of the car decreased by an average of 180 kg. The Porsche Cayenne 2 received a new Tiptronic S transmission (8-speed automatic), and also acquired a start-stop system. But at the same time, the Porsche Cayenne 958 all-wheel drive system has become much simpler. The Torsen center differential, which provides permanent all-wheel drive, was installed only on diesel versions and the Porsche Cayenne hybrid. On other modifications, an electromagnetic clutch was used to select torque to the front wheels. Rear axle locking and low gear are completely absent in the new Porsche Cayenne models.

The appearance of the second generation cars is still in the same style of a sports SUV. Signature teardrop-shaped headlights, a slightly elongated hood and a massive bumper with an integrated radiator grille give the new Porsche Cayenne the image of an aggressive SUV ready to overcome any obstacles.

The interior trim is made in the recognizable style of a Porsche sports car, but has received a new front panel with five round instruments and a 4.8-inch diagonal on-board computer display. If necessary, the display can be used in navigator mode, and while driving, use only the instrument panel.

Technical characteristics of Porsche Cayenne 2

The Porsche Cayenne engines, even in the base model, have become a little more powerful and with a volume of 3.6 liters. produce power of 300 hp. and allow you to accelerate the car to 230 kilometers per hour. Acceleration to hundreds is carried out in 7.5 seconds. Using systems DFI And VarioCam Plus makes Porsche Cayenne power units quite economical and environmentally friendly.

Porsche Cayenne Diesel cars are equipped with a 3-liter turbocharged unit, in terms of dynamic performance they are only slightly inferior to the gasoline version, but in terms of fuel consumption they are much more economical.

Basic Cayenne models are equipped with both a 6-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic Tiptronic S. Porsche Cayenne Diesel cars are not equipped with a manual transmission.

The fully independent suspension of the basic version of the Cayenne does not include air suspension, but in the second generation this feature is provided as an option.

The unique Porsche braking system and the adjustable dual-chamber power steering ensure reliable vehicle control on any road surface. In all versions of the second generation Cayenne, the Servotronic power steering system is available as an option, which changes the control stiffness depending on the vehicle speed.

The cost of a Porsche Cayenne in 2012 in Russia was about 3,150,000 rubles for the basic version. Porsche Cayenne Diesel is about 30,000 rubles more expensive. But all these prices apply to cars in white or black colors, and for the other available colors you already had to pay about 50 thousand rubles.

Such quite affordable prices apply only to the basic versions of the luxury sports SUV. But for the Porsche Cayenne GTS and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S models you will have to pay about 8 - 8.2 million rubles. A full option for a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S car can cost over 10 million rubles, so we are not talking about any cheapness here. The entire emphasis is on speed and comfort.

Porsche Cayenne Stormster

In addition to the version of the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid aimed at protecting the environment and saving fuel, there is also a rather interesting version of the SUV from a tuning company RUF. The eRUF Stormster is fully electric. The Porsche Cayenne's electric powertrain produces 362 hp and a top speed limited to 150 km/h for optimal range. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is also quite brisk for an electric car. It is about 10 seconds. As for the power reserve, the car is capable of covering up to 200 km without recharging, and it can be recharged from a regular industrial outlet. True, recharging time in this mode is about 8 hours.

Porsche Cayenne Magnum

Considering the popularity of the Porsche Cayenne, it is not surprising that the tuning company TechArt I didn’t miss this model. The first Porsche Cayenne Magnum model was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2007 and received positive reviews. Therefore, the appearance of the second generation Porsche Cayenne TechArt Magnum in 2011 was perceived by all consumers as a pattern.

The Cayenne's carbon fiber hood, polyurethane bumper with four xenon fog lights and door and sill trims give it more sportiness and power. To increase downforce at high speeds, a spoiler appeared on the roof of the car. Increasing the downforce on the rear of the car became necessary after upgrading the already weak 500 hp engine into a 560 hp unit. Accordingly, with changes in engine power, the suspension was also modernized. The air suspension has a lower ground clearance and adjustable stiffness depending on the speed.

In addition to all this, TechArt specialists provide customers with a full range of multimedia devices, a built-in refrigerator for cooling drinks, as well as exclusive interior trim according to the customer’s order and design.

Despite the exorbitant prices of such cars, their popularity even among domestic consumers is growing every year. This is explained by the fact that the Cayenne Magnum has no competitors in terms of speed in the off-road vehicle sector. What Russian doesn't like driving fast?

The current, second, generation of the sports all-terrain vehicle Porsche Cayenne “appeared on the roads” in 2010 - confidently continuing the successes of its predecessor (which, at one time, became the first all-terrain vehicle in the model line of Porsche sports cars).

However, despite the high popularity of this car, four years later the German manufacturer decided to update the premium crossover and thus, at the end of 2014, the restyled Cayenne (2015 model year) entered the Russian market.

But before we look at the updated 958, let’s remember what it was like before modernization... So, in comparison with the first generation car, the second generation Porsche Cayenne became larger - which made it more impressive and proportional, but retained the exterior "sporty silhouette"

As part of the update for 2015, it added a little more length and, most importantly, became noticeably more aggressive in terms of exterior design (a new, more stylish body kit played a significant role here).

If we concentrate on specific transformations, the modernized Cayenne has acquired: a tweaked hood, slightly larger front fenders, improved optics, different bumpers, a larger radiator grille (behind which active flaps are now hidden), as well as new rear lights.

As for the dimensions, the length of the 2015 Porsche Cayenne model year is 4,855 mm (previously 4,846 mm), the wheelbase is 2,895 mm, the body width does not exceed 1,939 mm (excluding mirrors), and the height is limited to 1,705 mm .
As before the modernization, it has 215 mm of ground clearance (but the ground clearance can increase to 268 mm if an optional air suspension is installed).

It is also worth noting that the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the Cayenne body is 0.35 Cx.

The curb weight of the car is 2,040 kg (for the gasoline version) or 2,110 kg (for the Cayenne Diesel).

The notes of sportiness characteristic of the exterior of the Porsche Cayenne are reflected in the interior of the SUV: the ignition switch located on the left, the inclined center console, the sports steering wheel, as well as the contours of the seats - all this is reminiscent of the interior of the Carrera GT and other sports cars from the Porsche concern. .

As part of the update that took place in 2014, all cars of the Cayenne line received: a completely new multifunction steering wheel, partially improved finishing materials, an updated multimedia system with a modified software shell, and (optional) ventilated rear seats.

The luggage compartment of the 2nd generation Porsche Cayenne, regardless of the year of manufacture, “initially” has a useful volume of 670 liters, and the maximum capacity (with the rear sofa folded) is equal to: 1,780 liters (for the petrol version) or 1,728 liters (for the diesel version) ).

If we talk about power units, the basic gasoline Porsche Cayenne for the Russian market has not changed - both before and after modernization it is still the same V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters (3598 cm³), a direct injection system fuel injection with electromagnetic injectors and VarioCam Plus variable valve timing system. The power of this unit is 300 hp. at 6300 rpm, and the peak torque reaches 400 Nm at 3000 rpm.
The main difference between the updated petrol 958 and the pre-reform one is the lack of a choice of gearbox: if previously buyers could choose between a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic Tiptronic S, then after the update only the automatic remained in service "

The petrol version of the Cayenne accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds (“pre-styling” in 7.8 seconds) and provides a top speed of 230 km/h. As for fuel consumption, within the city it “eats” about 12.3 liters of gasoline, on the highway it costs 7.5 liters, and in the combined cycle it consumes about 9.2 liters of fuel.

Now about the Porsche Cayenne Diesel. The pre-reform all-terrain vehicle was equipped with a 3.0-liter (2967 cm³) turbo-diesel engine with direct fuel injection and a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. The maximum output of this engine is 245 hp. at 3800 – 4400 rpm, and the peak torque occurs at around 550 Nm, available at 1750 – 2750 rpm. After modernization, the diesel Cayenne became more powerful - 262 hp. and 580 Nm of torque... but not for the Russian market - where it remained the same (for reasons of “tax optimality”).
The gearbox for the diesel engine was initially without options - an 8-speed automatic Tiptronic S.

The starting dynamics of a diesel car are noticeably better: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.3 seconds. But the maximum speed is lower than that of its “gasoline brother” - 221 km/h. As for fuel consumption, the diesel option is “out of competition” - in the combined cycle, the diesel Cayenne consumes 6.8 liters of fuel per 100 km.

The second-generation Porsche Cayenne SUV (index “958”) is based on a durable monocoque body, reinforced with front and rear subframes designed to reduce possible vibrations that affect the smoothness of the ride.

The suspension here is completely independent: at the front it is based on double wishbones, and at the rear it has a multi-link design. In addition, there are anti-roll bars front and rear, which can be replaced with optional active stabilizers.
Also included among the options is air suspension with adjustable ground clearance.
By the way, as part of the update for 2015, the Germans slightly reconfigured the suspension and also replaced some of its components - which made it possible to improve the smoothness of the ride, achieve greater stability when cornering at high speed, and also maintain a high level of comfort in the cabin even when driving on uneven roads.

As part of the update, the Porsche Cayenne also received an upgraded braking system, represented by ventilated disc brakes with aluminum monoblock 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear, as well as brake discs with a diameter of 350 and 330 mm for the front and rear wheels, respectively.

The all-terrain vehicle's rack-and-pinion steering mechanism is complemented by a variable-force hydraulic booster.

The Porsche Cayenne already receives an all-wheel drive system as standard, based on an interaxle multi-disc electromagnetic clutch, which is electronically controlled and works in conjunction with the ABD (simulated cross-axle differential lock) and ASR (traction control) systems.
We add that the 2015 Cayenne Diesel is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive with a self-locking Torsen center differential and continuously variable torque distribution between the rear wheels. In normal operation, all-wheel drive here distributes traction between the axles in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the rear wheels, but if necessary, it can change this ratio in the range from 100:0 to 0:100.

Options and prices. Porsche Cayenne is already equipped in the base with: 18″ alloy wheels, bi-xenon head optics, LED daytime running lights, tire pressure monitoring system, ESP stabilization system, 6 airbags, electric trunk lid, 2-zone climate control, on-board computer with multifunctional color display, leather upholstery, full power accessories, front seats with electrical adjustment in 8 directions, rear seats with longitudinal adjustment and adjustable backrest angle, CDR audio system with 7″ touch screen and 10 speakers, alarm system with ultrasonic interior control, heated front seats, height and reach adjustable steering column, cruise control and electric parking brake.
The cost of the second generation Porsche Cayenne in 2017 starts at 4,830,000 rubles, and the diesel version is offered by dealers at a price of 4,898,000 rubles.

The automaker Porsche decided to publish information about the new generation of Porsche Cayenne even before the official display of the crossover at the Frankfurt auto show. The updated model has acquired various innovations, including a more modern appearance, an increased list of equipment, as well as technical changes.

The first customers will be able to receive the new 2018-2019 Porsche Cayenne at the end of 2017. The price of the 3rd generation Porsche Cayenne will start from 74,828 euros. For this money, the company offers a basic crossover with a 340-horsepower V-shaped six with a volume of three liters.

The cost of the “hot” Porsche Cayenne S, in the engine compartment of which a 2.9-liter V6 with two turbines is installed, developing 440 “horses,” already reaches 91,964 euros. The new Cayenne should appear in Russia at the beginning of 2018. Closer to the start of sales in the Russian Federation, official information about the price and configurations of the new product will appear.

In fact, the Porsche Cayenne is the company's flagship, as this model accounts for approximately 30% of sales. During 2016, the company was able to sell about 17.1 thousand copies of the crossover in the European market, and the same figure in the United States was approximately 15.4 thousand.

The first generation of Porsche Cayenne appeared back in 2002. The manufacturer managed to sell approximately 760,000 cars of the first two generations. The main competitors of the new product will be the X5 and X6 cars from BMW, the Mercedes GLE coupe, Lexus RX, Audi Q7 and, of course, the Volvo XC90.

Appearance, overall dimensions and platform

The exterior of the new Porsche Cayenne 2018-2019 has been significantly updated, while maintaining the recognition of the car. Key changes in the appearance of the crossover occur in the rear of the body, but the front has only been slightly modernized. Thus, the radiator grille was changed, as a result of which it visually stretched across the entire width of the front part of the body. The front lighting and bumper have also undergone minor modifications.

The oval optics were removed from the rear of the body, and their place was taken by narrow lights with a small LED strip that combines the lighting elements at the stern. In addition, the rear bumper has also been updated. The standard version of the crossover is equipped with a pair of trapezoidal exhaust tips, but the “lighter” Cayenne S received dual round tips at the edges of the bumper.

As the length of the car body increased, this affected the size of the rear doors. In addition, the developers mention that the base already has 19-inch wheels. 20- and 21-inch rollers are also available to buyers. You can install wider tires on the rear axle, something the previous version of the Porsche Cayenne could not boast of.

The new Porsche Cayenne body is built on the basis of the MLB Evo “trolley”. Let us remember that the same platform underlies the Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7. The wheelbase of the crossover has not changed (the same 2895 mm), but other overall dimensions have been adjusted. The length of the body increased to 4918 mm (+63), and the width - to 1983 mm (+44). They decided to reduce the height to 1696 mm (-9).

Although the overall dimensions of the 2018-2019 Porsche Cayenne have increased, its weight has been reduced. The weight of the basic version of the crossover is now 1985 kg (for its predecessor - 2040). To achieve this task, the designers used more body elements made of aluminum alloy. It was used to produce five doors, a floor, wings, a roof, a hood, as well as a front power structure and individual suspension parts. Instead of a standard battery, engineers installed Li-ion, which immediately reduced the weight of the car by 10 kg.

Interior equipment

The interior of the new 3rd generation Porsche Cayenne received a familiar front panel design. It is made in the same style as the panel of the new generation Porsche Panamera fastback. Ergonomics, as always, are excellent; using the various systems is very easy. Note the use of the latest multimedia system, which includes a 12.3-inch screen. The system provides ample opportunities for users:

  • navigator;
  • synchronization with mobile devices (Android Auto / Apple CarPlay);
  • voice control;
  • Wi-Fi and 4G wireless connection;
  • many Porsche Connect functions.

Just below the multimedia system display there are ventilation deflectors that are manually adjustable. Even lower on the center console there are sensor elements for adjusting the operation of the climate control system, ventilation and heated seats, etc. Among them you can see analog switches, one of which is responsible for activating the parking brake.

The instrument panel also deserves attention. It has a dial tachometer in the center, a speedometer on the left, and 7.0-inch diagonal screens on the edges that display the most important data. To control the information displayed on these displays, use the multifunction steering wheel buttons.

Already the basic configuration of the 2018-2019 Porsche Cayenne 3 includes the following elements:

  • LED front and rear optics;
  • dual-zone climate control;
  • heated and electrically adjustable front seats;
  • 8 airbags.

More expensive modifications are equipped with matrix lighting, seats with massage and ventilation, heated rear row, climate control with four zones, a night vision system, proprietary acoustics, and a panoramic top. Adaptive cruise control, road marking and lane control systems, 360° cameras, parking sensors, etc. help you drive your car.

The increase in body length has led to the fact that the trunk volume of the Porsche Cayenne in the new body is now 770 liters (+100 liters compared to its predecessor!). Moreover, if you fold the backs of the second row of seats, this figure will be 1710 liters, which is 70 liters less than the previous generation model. This is such a paradox.

Characteristics, engines, speed indicators and fuel consumption

Technical characteristics of the 2018-2019 Porsche Cayenne suggest the use of three engines:

  1. The standard Porsche Cayenne will receive a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder unit. Its power is 340 hp and maximum torque is 450 Nm. It works in tandem with an 8-speed automatic transmission Tiptronic S, accelerating the crossover from zero to first hundred in 6.2 seconds. The maximum speed declared by the manufacturer is 245 km/h (there is a limiter). The average fuel consumption of the 3rd generation Porsche Cayenne is 9.0-9.2 liters per 100 km.
  2. The “hot” Porsche Cayenne S was equipped with a 440-horsepower 2.9-liter V6 with a peak torque of 550 Nm. It is mated to a similar eight-speed automatic transmission. This crossover accelerates much faster – only 5.2 seconds and already reaches 100 km/h. The maximum speed is 265 km/h, and fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 9.2-9.4 liters per hundred.
  3. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo received a 4.0-liter V8 that develops a staggering 550 horsepower (770 Nm). This crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.1 seconds. Its maximum speed reaches 286 km/h.

The Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne S will be available with the Sport Chrono package, which has a positive effect on the car's speed performance. Installing this package on a regular Porsche Cayenne will reduce acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h to 5.9 seconds, and for the S version this figure will be 4.9 seconds.

In the future, the company plans to release modifications with other types of engines. In particular, we are talking about diesel versions, as well as a hybrid crossover, the batteries of which can be charged from a regular electrical outlet.

A double-wishbone suspension is installed at the front of the car, and a multi-link at the rear. For an additional fee, the manufacturer also offers a pneumatic system. There are adaptive shock absorbers that steer the rear wheels, as well as an active anti-roll function.

Special modes have been created for off-road driving:

  • Mud (dirt);
  • Sand (sand);
  • Gravel (gravel);
  • Rocks (stones).

The manufacturer offers three brake versions for the new Cayenne:

  1. Conventional cast iron brake discs.
  2. Carbon ceramic brake discs.
  3. Branded Surface Coated Brake discs coated with tungsten carbide.
