The gearbox is not always specified in the owner's manual for modern cars. Not all owners know when the next oil change in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado automatic transmission is required. Automakers often characterize their products as maintenance-free. That is, automatic transmission oil, filled on the factory conveyor, is able to retain useful properties during its service life and does not need regular replacement.

Features of maintenance of automatic transmission Prado 150

The statement that there is no need to change the transmission oil in an automatic transmission is partly true and is justified only for cars that have been in use for no longer than 4 years on European roads. Unlike other countries, here a car is purchased for a long time and is used intensively for several decades, while changing owners. For this reason, an oil change in the Prado 150 automatic transmission is required after passing the next 80,000 km.

Depending on the condition of the roads and other operating conditions, this procedure may be carried out much more often. The service life of the transmission of a popular Japanese SUV directly depends on the frequency of updating the transmission oil. It is much more profitable for the owner of a Toyota Land Cruiser diesel crossover to carry out regular maintenance than repairs and subsequent replacement of expensive spare parts.

Important: The figure of 80,000 km is valid when operating the vehicle on country roads. If an SUV spends a lot of time in city traffic jams and often stops at traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, the automatic transmission is subject to the greatest loads. At the same time, it is necessary to change the ATF transmission oil much more often - almost twice. This also applies to crossovers operated in off-road conditions (potholes, potholes, mud, snow drifts, ice, etc.).

Which oil is suitable for TOYOTA PRADO 150 transmission

The choice of transmission oil for a Toyota Prado 150 automatic transmission should be based on the recommendations of the automaker. The service book for the car contains information about the use of branded ATF oil of the TOYOTA WS brand or its substitute TOYOTA T-IV. A complete oil change in the Toyota Prado 150 automatic transmission is carried out using special branded SST equipment. It is especially good to use this device when following a maintenance schedule when switching from one type of oil to another. In particular, from ATF TYPE-IV oil to ATF WS, respectively, since these brands are not compatible and cannot be mixed.

Important: TOYOTA WS transmission oil must be stored in dry areas, as this substance intensively absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. Under the influence of corrosion, parts and components of an SUV's transmission quickly deteriorate and fail.

Technical parameters of ATF WS oil:

  1. Viscosity index – 219 ISO 2909.
  2. The permissible ambient temperature range is from –50 to +50°С.
  3. The color is characteristic red.

If, immediately after changing the automatic transmission oil in a Toyota Prado 150, the fluid quickly darkens, this indicates a malfunction in the automatic transmission.

Which oil filter to choose

When changing the oil in an automatic transmission in a Toyota Prado, it is necessary to dismantle the used, contaminated oil filter to a new position. The original filter has article number 04152-31050. This filter element model is used only for Toyota Prado 150 automatic transmissions. In addition to the proposed model, elements marked: 04152-YZZA5 or 15600-41010 are also suitable for Prado.

Method for replacing and checking the oil level in an automatic transmission Prado 150

  • container for heated old oil (galvanized iron bucket);
  • polyhedron by 6;
  • spanners;
  • new oil filter;
  • gaskets, seals;
  • cotton rags.

To ensure better fluidity of the working fluid, you need to warm up the transmission oil in the gearbox before starting work. It is best to start the engine and drive a few kilometers. After this you need to do the following:

  1. Drive the SUV onto the overpass.
  2. Apply the brake.
  3. Place a bucket under the drain hole.
  4. Unscrew the plug and drain the waste fluid.
  5. Remove the pallet.
  6. Drain the oil and clean the surface of deposits (you can use gasoline).
  7. Remove the oil filter.
  8. Before installing a new filter element, it is recommended to treat the sealing ring with new oil (this will protect the rubber from premature cracking).
  9. Install a new oil filter.
  10. Place a new gasket on a clean automatic transmission sump.
  11. Secure the pallet assembly to the installation location.
  12. Check the amount of used oil drained.
  13. Fill the gearbox with new fluid through the filler hole (its volume must correspond to the oil removed).
  14. Screw the plug.

Finally, you need to turn on the diesel engine and move the automatic transmission selector through all modes with slight delays in each gear. This is done to distribute the oil evenly throughout the automatic transmission. Then the control plug located on the crankcase is unscrewed. A small amount of oil should flow out of the open hole. This indicates a normal level of filled working material. If there are no drops of lubricant, the missing fluid must be added.

Attention: The procedure for changing the oil in a Toyota Prado 150 automatic transmission is a rather complex operation. If you do not have the proper experience and certain skills, it is recommended to contact a service center. At specialized service stations, experienced specialists will:

  • Choice oil filter
  • Video on changing the oil in a Prado automatic transmission

Many car owners know what to change engine oil necessary, and also approximately imagine the time when this should be done, but what about gearbox and is it really necessary to change the oil in the automatic transmission in the Prado? Manufacturers often claim that the gearbox is filled with oil at the factory until the end of its operation. This is true, but few people know that this statement is given on the basis that the box will be replaced after a hundred thousand kilometers or the owner will replace the car.

Imported cars are developed for the domestic market, where cars are very rarely used for more than four years.

In the conditions of Russian reality, such a luxury is not possible for every citizen, and the car lacks more thorough maintenance, due to the fact that, once in Russia, it will be used for a couple of decades, albeit with different owners. It is precisely on this basis that changing the oil in the automatic transmission of a Toyota Prado 150 becomes a necessity after 80 thousand kilometers on domestic roads. It is possible to carry out this procedure more often, but never less often.

The more often the oil is updated, the longer the mechanism will last. Considering the price of spare parts for this Jeep, proper transmission care will cost much less than replacing it.

It is worth noting this nuance: if you drive a car on a highway, then you can change the fluids once every 80 thousand kilometers. If the car is operated in a city where the gearbox experiences enormous loads, then replacement is required twice as often - approximately every 40 thousand km; the same rule applies if you find yourself at a crossroads quite often.

Which oil is suitable for transmission

Which automatic transmission oil is suitable for Toyota Prado 150 is a controversial issue for many car owners. As a rule, they use branded TOYOTA T-IV oil or a cheaper, but also branded TOYOTA WS oil. The car's service book says the following: the recommended oil is Toyota WS. To replace it, the user will need a special device (SST), which will help change the oil in the Prado 150 automatic transmission completely.

But if you don’t have this device, you can do without it.

In addition, Toyota Genuine ATF WS oil is acceptable for use in automatic transmissions. It is recommended by the manufacturer; It is with this oil that the efficiency of the box will be high, and it will last the longest.

The only trouble is that the automatic transmission contains a second oil from the factory, which is not recommended to be mixed with the new one. To switch to a new fluid, the old one must be drained completely. Filled with ATF TYPE-IV from the factory; It must be emphasized that fluids must be stored correctly, since their highlight is the ability to absorb moisture, which can have a very bad effect on the condition of the gearbox.

The viscosity index for oil is 219 ISO 2909. It freezes only at -50 degrees, and at positive temperatures it works comfortably up to +50 outside, so this type of lubricant is universal for most regions of Russia. Oil can be identified by its characteristic red color. After the replacement is completed, it is worth checking its color and level from time to time: if the liquid soon turns black, the box is faulty.

Based on this, if you don't understand, what kind of oil The Prado 150 automatic transmission will fit optimally into the car’s service book.

List of what is needed to change the oil in an automatic transmission

Oil filter selection

If you are planning to replace oils for Automatic transmission Toyota Prado 150, then you will need to buy an oil filter in advance, since an old one will become unusable. To choose the right filter, you need to know its article number.

The article number for the unique filter is 04152-31050. It is only suitable for PRADO 150. It is possible to choose a filter that is also installed on other cars or on Prado, but is produced by second companies.

For example, a non-specialized filter for Prado and RAV 4 will be with article number 04152-YZZA5. A filter whose article number is 15600-41010 is also suitable. Average price of this consumables– from 330 to 500 rubles.

How to change the oil and check its level

Changing the oil in a Prado 150 automatic transmission is not the simplest or easiest thing, but it can be done not only in a special auto repair shop, where there is all the necessary equipment for this, but also in a garage, but for this you need to try and spend a lot of time.

It is worth knowing some of the structural features of the Prado 50 automatic transmission. The fact is that the automatic transmission pan is equipped with special magnets, which are necessary to attract the largest particles of iron debris. If small chips come out along with the used oil, then large particles or even broken gears must be looked for in the pan.

It is fundamentally important to drain the old oil completely, since the new one will have a different density, and when mixing such liquids, the division into boxes will be disrupted, which will lead to its malfunction. For the same reason, oils of different manufacturers and varieties should not be mixed.

Changing the oil in the Prado 150 automatic transmission must be done entirely: for this you will need to buy about 8 liters of fluid.

Only 4 liters can be drained. If the car has low mileage, the system can be washed. If the mileage is enormous, it is better to leave everything as is and replace only the oil that was removed.

To change the oil, you will need a container to catch the used fluid. The oil is drained hot, so take care of your hands and better take an iron bucket. In addition, you will need 14, 24 and 10 heads. Arm yourself with a 6 hex and prepare in advance the oil filter, seal ring for the transmission filter, gasket for the drain plug and a new gasket for the pan.

Don’t be alarmed if it’s rubber and the factory one is iron: that’s how it should be.

Before starting work, the oil must be warmed up: this will ensure better fluidity. A simple warm-up of the engine is unnecessary, so it’s best to drive the car a couple of blocks

Place the car over the hole and secure it. Using a 14mm socket, unscrew the drain plug and collect the old oil in a bucket. After the oil has drained, take the head 10 and unscrew the bolts that secure the automatic transmission pan, then you can remove the filter.

In addition, the oil from the pan must be poured out and, if necessary, the pan must be cleaned with gasoline.

Removing the automatic transmission filter

Before installing a new filter, its O-ring is lubricated with fresh oil: this is done so that the rubber does not dry out. You need to install the filter with caution. The clean pan is then replaced in place, replacing the gasket on it.

The central bolts must be tightened first, then those at the edges.

Before adding new oil, you need to check how much has been drained. If you don't understand how to check oil level Automatic transmission Prado 150, proceed as follows: using a 24mm socket you need to press out the drain plug. This will allow you to see how much oil has been drained.

Then you can begin to pour liquid into the filler hole until its level becomes high again. Changing the Prado automatic transmission oil requires the following procedure: after it is filled and the plug is tightened, you need to start the car and switch all gearbox modes. Then, using a 6-point head, you need to unscrew the check plug: if everything is done correctly, the oil will flow out in a narrow stream.

If this does not happen, you need to add more fluid. Then the filler plug can be clamped. It is more accurate to check the level at a service station using a scanner.

Changing the oil in a Toyota Prado 150 automatic transmission is a relatively complex procedure; therefore, if you have doubts that you can do it correctly, it is better to contact a service station.

Good afternoon I have a prado 150. It doesn’t shift to fifth gear (it holds 3000 rpm at 120, then the rpm increases) sometimes, not all the time. Thank you very much for your answer, we will win, then it means to the service

The problem is not big

Hello! The transfer case lock checks, ABS and slippery road started to light up at the same time. Goes out on a straight road. It was rare before. Now it’s happening more often. The button won’t turn it off. Could this be due to a wheel alignment violation (I read this somewhere, I have a suspicion about it)? The car is 5 years old. Prado 150. Mileage 195,000.

Hello. Do diagnostics at the service.

Everything is displayed correctly on the instrument panel!

Thanks for the answer. And what to do?

Repair or change the gearbox.

Hello to Prado 150 2014 .4.0. gasoline of the year at a speed of 55-60 km. There is a slight vibration and disappears, at 4 at the same speed there is nothing. I visited the officials and looked at the entire chassis, everything seems to be fine, they said to change the oil in the automatic transmission, if that doesn’t help, they say there’s something in the box. Thank you in advance.

Hello. Most likely the gearbox is slipping.

Thanks for the quick response. Tomorrow for diagnostics.

Hello, I have a Toyota Prado 2010, 3.0 diesel. When driving, the speed indicator D does not light up on the monitor, when the car stops, the P and R indicators do not light up, then while driving I find that the gear does not change from 4th to 5th speed, in manual mode I could not change gears and they did not light up on the display . At this rhythm of movement I had to drive about 100 km on the highway.

Hello. There are many options, from a faulty gear sensor to a failure of the gearbox control unit. Need computer diagnostics at the service.

Thanks for the quick response.

So tomorrow for diagnostics

Hello! I bought a Toyota Prado 150 3L, diesel, 2013. mileage 160,000 km. I am the second owner. I looked at the service orders from the dealers and the oil in the automatic transmission has never been changed. The automatic transmission works flawlessly. Question: what kind of oil is poured into the automatic transmission from the factory: Toyota ATF WS or Toyota ATF TYPE T-IV? And what should I do with a full or partial replacement at such a mileage?

Hello. W.S. With such a mileage, you need to do two or partial oil changes every thousand km.

Hello. PRADO150 2.7 2013

In winter, off-road, the gearbox overheated. After this, when reversing into a load (slipping), the transmission seems to break down. If you just drive backwards on the roads, then everything is fine. Tell me what could be. Thank you in advance..

Hello. The box will have to be repaired. When heated, it slips due to burnt friction discs.

Hello! PRADO 150 3D 2011, on the highway in the range of 140 -160 km/h and when you release the gas pedal, the ABS ESP KDSS 4LO (drunk road) and the red icon ❗️ light up. The car doesn’t twitch or kick, everything works as normal!

I slow down to 20 - 40 km/h or make a complete stop, turn on and off the ignition and everything disappears. As soon as you accelerate and release the gas pedal, everything repeats itself! When driving up to 140 km/h everything is fine!

Could the gearbox be overheating?

Hello. Do diagnostics at the service and everything will be clear.

I played with the gun for half a day! Each wheel, the result is zero (((Could it be an automatic transmission?

It's unlikely that the selector cable is broken?

Hello! Toyota Prado 150 2012. I went on a business trip for a week, parked the car in the garage (before putting it in the garage, drove through a snowdrift) when I arrived, the car starts but doesn’t want to go, I put it in D, it rises but doesn’t go, I’m afraid to press the pedal further, in position R it’s the same. The garage is unheated, always around +2, please advise.

Hello. Check whether the wheels or brake pads are frozen.

Hello. Prado 150 2010 4l, when switching from P to R or D a whistle appears, is heard when the window is open in the parking lot, when switching to N or P it disappears. After starting to move above 20 km/h it disappears. The box works flawlessly. What could it be? Thank you in advance!

Hello. Need diagnostics, little information for diagnosis. There may be a malfunction in the torque converter.

Good afternoon. Prado 150 4 automatic transmission. My wife stuck P in without stopping completely. There was a crash and the car stopped dead in its tracks. What could be the consequences?

If the box is not torn, then there is nothing serious except for the rounding of the teeth of the parking mechanism.

Prado 150 2.7 dad. After - 40 C, vibration when stopping in mode D and when driving at low speeds. Up to -40 everything is fine.

something is freezing however...

But seriously, you need to look, maybe it’s not the checkpoint.

I have a question: somewhere in March, in drive mode with the brake pressed, when I was standing there a knock appeared under the car, as if someone was banging a hammer, this happened 2 times in a month, I took the car to a service center, they looked at it, changed the oil, it became warm and everything was ok. Now it’s colder and every day it rattles, I release the brake and there is no sound, only when driving it’s the same. During the day it was plus 10, there was no sound, now in the evening it was plus 2 and it was knocking again. What could it be, the mileage is 230,000, after changing the oil I drove 15,000

When the brake is pressed in drive mode, nothing spins in the box, so either it’s not a box at all, or it’s a torque converter, but then there should be aluminum shavings in the oil.

A week ago I bought a car LC PRADO 150 3.0 TD 2011

I didn’t notice it right away, but then while driving along the highway I discovered the following points:

1. As someone wrote above: When driving without a load on a highway at borderline speeds, the automatic transmission begins to yaw, not deciding what speed to turn on. By putting pressure on the gas pedal, the transmission is caught. This happened 2-3 times.

2. When driving in 5th gear at a speed of 80 km/h and 1500 rpm, as well as at a speed of 120 km/h and 2100 rpm, vibration is felt in the body, but is not transmitted to the steering wheel.

3. Yesterday, after I once again caught vibration, the 4lo, check and wet road lights came on, but the vibration at the above speeds decreased significantly.

4. A couple of times I noticed jerks in the gearbox when changing gears.

What is this and what to do?

Need diagnostics, the description sounds like a torque converter.

Emergency unlocking also does not unlock the box.

if there is an electrical problem it will unlock

Good afternoon! Please tell me a Toyota Prado 150 .2014. The gear shift lever cannot be moved (it is parked) until the car has been running for about 20 minutes, the gearbox is automatic - what could it be? an automatic gearbox. Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon. First, contact an electrician about locking the selector lever.

Prado 150 .2010. I was driving around the city, the check light flashed, 4lo, the car was skidding, everything was on a yellow background. I turned off the car, 5 minutes, started it, everything disappeared. While driving, I sharply gave the gas and everything caught fire again. What’s the problem? Tell me. Thanks in advance

The gearbox may be slipping. Need diagnostics.

Hello, prado150 3.0 diesel, 2011, stated mileage 60366, I am the third owner. Recently I noticed sometimes when the car stops, there is a jolt when switching from second to first. when you start moving, sometimes the same thing happens. and it seems not at the moment of switching the box.

I changed the oil at the service center. the guys said that the oil had not been changed for a very long time. There was even a musty smell. the problem hasn't gone away. They advised me to go reset the box. They're working on Mercedes. they don't have such equipment. Type4 oil was added.

What do you think the problem might be and will adaptation help?

Hello. Adaptation will not help, the problem is at least in the valve body, and if the oil is burnt, this indicates that the friction packs are slipping. And also, oil for these Toyota ws boxes.

So this is a normal phenomenon?

Good afternoon, please tell me about the Toyota Prado 150 2014. In 3.0 turbo diesel automatic transmission in 4L mode, when driving on asphalt, gear shifting occurs with a jerk in 4H mode, all gears shift normally. What could it be

Don't play around with the distributor on the asphalt, it will end badly.

Approximate cost for such a malfunction (what to focus on) and is it possible in terms of time quickly, I’m in St. Petersburg, if I go, I wouldn’t want to sit in Moscow for a long time, your service was just recommended.

Do I understand correctly that you have to remove it, repair defects, and it’s cheaper while the car is running?

Good afternoon. Citroen C5 diesel 163 hp 2009, mileage 240,000 km, the oil in the box has never been changed on the car, I got it with a mileage of 182,000 km. Almost everything at such a mileage refused to be changed due to possible problems afterward. Now it practically doesn’t bother me, only in cold weather there is slight slipping when switching to 3rd gear, after warming up it is not observed. Tell me what to do - take it apart?

Hello. The longer you drive with this problem, the more expensive the repair will be.

What should be done? and when?

Need valve body repair, call.

Good day! Prado 150 2010 Today I changed the oil in the automatic transmission, before the change there were no questions about the operation of the automatic transmission, but after the change, when turning on mode D and then smoothly pressing the accelerator pedal, slipping and jolting occurs, followed by acceleration of the car. What can be wrong? Thanks for your reply in advance!

Hello. The entry of gearbox wear particles into the valve body can lead to jamming of the valves in the valve body. Was there a replacement on the device?

Yes, the replacement was hardware. (Full oil change) Particles were present on medium sized magnets and the oil was almost black. Today they called and said that the filter was defective and installed their own and offered to change the oil completely after 10 thousand. Does it make sense to completely replace it after 10 thousand?

For ten thousand with such a problem you will burn the box.

Good evening, I drive a Prada 150 3 liter diesel 10 year old, when I stop at a traffic light I feel a jolt in the transmission, it’s not big but it bothers me a lot, on the highway everything is ok, nothing bothers me. When I came to the OD, they did a diagnostic, everything was ok, they changed the oil and said try driving it, maybe it will pass. The problem remains, even if during a smooth super smooth stop from 80 to 0 you stop, there is no push, but as soon as you start to move, just releasing the brake there is a push, what is the problem? Just in case, I sprayed the cardan, it didn’t help ((

Hello. The problem is in the valve body; when switching from second to first gear, the valve jams.

Thank you very much for your prompt response, what should I do? Change the valve body? As I understand it, it comes with the brains for the automatic transmission, could you give me an estimate of the cost of repair/replacement/term. I understand that this is an oil change, but it’s really a pity, I only changed it for 3 days with a new one)))

The hydraulic unit can be repaired, call.

Good afternoon Prado 150, 2011, diesel 3l. When starting to move, the car jerks. Turned it off. Started it again - it drove fine. I arrived and installed it. Two hours later I started it - again the same thing the first time. Is everything ok the second time? What could it be? It's not a matter of fuel - I've been driving on this fuel for a week now.

Most likely the problem is in the fuel equipment, get it diagnosed.

Good evening, I was driving along the highway, the speed was no more than 140, suddenly the check light came on, 4 lo and the car was skidding, what could it be? Prado 150 2.7 gas/petrol.

Hello. Diagnostics is needed, when the emergency mode is turned on, the third gear is engaged in the gearbox, 4Lo is a low gear in the transfer case, which can lead to skidding at such a speed. Possibly an electronic glitch.

So there is no reason to panic?

Good day. New Prado 150, 3000 mileage. I drove it, my brother asked for a ride. Dahl sat next to me. Accelerated to 40 km/h. And then he foolishly pressed the brake automatically (like a clutch) and turned on r and, out of fright, p. The car just drove and drove, but at the same time the rattle sound was like on a manual transmission when switching with the clutch not fully depressed. I got behind the wheel myself, checked it on a slope, in p mode it doesn’t roll, everything works as before. Is there anything to be afraid of or has the fool proof worked?

Hello. It was just luck.

Is it better to come to you for diagnostics?

Good afternoon On the Prado 150, gasoline 2.7, when accelerating from 30 km/h the speed increases to 4500, and then there is no shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, you drop half the gas, it immediately switches. What could it be?

Hello. Incorrect operation of the hydraulic unit.

Good afternoon Prado 150, 2011, diesel 3l. When driving without a load on a highway at borderline speeds, the automatic transmission begins to yaw, not deciding what speed to turn on. By putting pressure on the gas pedal, the transmission is caught. What is this? Thanks in advance for your answer!

Good afternoon. Incorrect operation of the valve body, the reason may be in the electronics, you need to figure it out.

Good day! Prado 95 2000 The problem is the following: the automatic transmission kicks when switching from P to R from R to D (if you press the brake twice in a row, the shocks are less noticeable), when coasting, if you sharply press the gas pedal - a kick. When you turn it down, it kicks in all variations. Thank you very much!

Hello. Either there is play in the chassis or the hydraulic unit is faulty.

Hello. I have a Prado 150, 2.7, when switching from P to D and R there is a jolt and the same situation occurs from 1st to 2nd speed. Everything is injected regularly and the oils are changed.

Hello. The valve body needs to be repaired and the solenoids replaced.

Hello! On Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 150, 2011 4 liter, the manual mode of the automatic transmission does not turn on. The lever moves and there is no reaction. Thanks in advance!

Hello. Disabling the manual shift function indicates problems in the gearbox; diagnostics need to be done

Hello. Prado 150. diesel. 3 liters. the story is like this. I wore out this car. sideways across a snow-covered field, gas to the floor. As a result, an hour later I noticed that 5th gear was missing. After another 20 minutes, the yellow check engine light came on, the yellow 4LO was blinking, and the exchange rate stabilization system light was on. everything caught fire at the same time. Plus, when you start moving, the car already shifts into gear at revs. what could it be?

Hello. I burned the box. Now for the renovation.

Hello. LC 150 diesel 2010. When the frost is more than 25 degrees, it does not go more than 40, the speed is stable, in August I did a maintenance with a complete replacement of all fluids. Engine speed is stable. Thank you in advance.

Hello. Freeze! We need to do a diagnosis

I have a Prado 150 2010. 3.0 diesel, automatic transmission, 130,000 km.

when switching from 4 to 5 there is slipping and jerking, when starting off there is a jerk with a blow, at a speed of 80-90 km there is vibration on a flat road, errors are not displayed. OD does not really explain anything.

Toyota Prado is a popular Japanese SUV, positioned as an affordable alternative to full-fledged premium Mercedes. Therefore, the car is in high demand - largely due to the prestige and status of the Toyota company. But over time, many owners begin to be annoyed by the question of timely changing the oil in the Toyota Prado gearbox. The manufacturer claims that the oil filled in from the factory is designed for the entire service life of the box. Unfortunately, under harsh operating conditions, factory oil will sooner or later become unusable, so the issue of replacing the fluid should be resolved in a timely manner. In this regard, after the end of the warranty period, the owner needs to decide whether to sell the car or continue to use it. Most choose the first option so as not to fork out for expensive repairs. Some, on the contrary, do not want to part with a Japanese car, and at the same time firmly decide to do the repairs themselves - if possible. For example, you can perform a procedure such as changing the oil in the gearbox on your own. Let's look at what you need to know for this using the example of a Toyota Prado 150 with a diesel engine and automatic transmission.

  1. Original Toyota T-IV oil. As a last resort, an analogue of Toyota WS or Toyota Genuine ATF WS will do. The factory fills with ATF Type IV fluid with a viscosity index of 219 ISO 2909
  2. Original oil filter Toyota Prado 150 3.0d 3533060050
  3. Original gasket for automatic transmission Toyota Prado
  4. Original rubber seal

Nuances when changing the oil, sequence of work

A complete replacement of the lubricant is possible only in a specialized workshop, using diagnostic instruments and auxiliary tools. But for the average owner, a partial replacement of the fluid will be enough, but at the same time it will have to be changed much more often - for example, every 40 thousand kilometers.

It is important to note that the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 150 gearbox has a special design. So, the transmission tray has special magnets that attract large metal debris - this is necessary so that it does not somehow get into the gearbox. Typically, small metal shavings accumulate inside the transmission and spill out along with the old oil. Then the box is cleaned with a special flushing liquid, but with a partial replacement you can do without it.

If possible, it is better to drain the old oil completely, since then you need to fill in new fluid, which is not advisable to mix with the old one. Otherwise, this will lead to a violation of the properties of the oil, and it will not bring any benefit.

Before unscrewing anything, it is recommended to warm up the engine thoroughly so that the oil is hot. This way there is a greater chance that the old oil will drain out completely and no additional flushing will be required. It is believed that after draining there should be at least 4 liters of waste liquid. As for flushing, it will still be required, but only with a very high mileage of the car.

You should wear gloves before draining hot oil. In addition, before carrying out work, you should select an inspection hole or overpass - this will make it more convenient to maintain the machine.

Among the tools you will need are 10, 14 and 24 socket heads, as well as a 6 hexagon.

Let's briefly consider the procedure for changing the oil:

  1. Using a 14mm head, unscrew the drain plug and pour the oil into a previously prepared bucket. Wait until the oil drains
  2. Take a 10mm socket and unscrew the automatic transmission pan retaining bolts to gain access to the oil filter. It must be unscrewed and removed from the seat, which should preferably be cleaned with a damp cloth or rags
  3. The automatic transmission pan must be removed carefully, as it may contain a large amount of hot oil.
  4. Before installing a new filter, it is necessary to lubricate it along with the O-ring. Then you can begin installing the part into the seat. Then install a clean pan and replace the gasket in it. To securely fix the pallet, tighten the nuts tightly - first the central ones, and then the screws along the edges
  5. The next, most important stage is pouring new oil into the gearbox. Fill in at least 4 liters; later, if necessary, liquid can be added
  6. As soon as the filling is completed, tighten the plug and start the engine, let it idle, then turn off the ignition.
  7. We make a control measurement of the oil level. If it is below the Max norm on the dipstick, you will have to add a little fluid.
  8. Carefully tighten all screw connections again and wipe them clean of any remaining oil. At this point, the oil change process can be considered complete.

Is it necessary to change the oil in an automatic transmission?

You've probably heard of the term "maintenance-free automatic transmission." Very often, this is the basis for many services that do not know how/do not want to change the oil in the transmission. In fact, according to all international standards and regulations, changing the automatic transmission oil (ATF) and filter is required every 50,000-60,000 km. In this case, the car owner asks himself the question: “What kind of replacement do I need? Partial or complete?”

Partial or complete automatic transmission oil change?

Partial replacement (ATF update) is carried out without flushing the automatic transmission. To carry out such work, on average, 4-5 liters and half an hour of time are required. The new oil is mixed with the old, and the operation of the box becomes smoother. Many car enthusiasts believe that it is better to exclusively replace the ATF completely, with flushing the system and displacing the old fluid. We do not pursue the goal of earning as much as possible from our clients, but we warn about possible problems and recommend in some cases ONLY partial replacement.

For example, if the car's mileage is more than 100,000 km, and the oil in the gearbox has never been changed, then such a replacement can negatively affect the operation of the automatic transmission, up to its complete failure. In cars with a significant mileage, this is due to the fact that when completely replacing the transmission fluid with flushing the automatic transmission, various deposits are washed out throughout the entire system, which clog the oil channels, and without normal cooling, the box dies quite quickly. In this case, to maximize the replacement of old oil, 2-3 partial changes should be made at intervals of 200-300 km. This will certainly not be comparable to a complete ATF replacement, but the percentage of fresh fluid will be 70-75%.

In what cases is a complete ATF replacement carried out?

All of the above problems do not concern car owners who every 50,000-60,000 km. carried out a routine oil change in the transmission. In this case, a complete oil change in the automatic transmission allows the box to serve faithfully and increases its service life by 150-200%.

Hello! Thank you for your question. Information on the process of replacing the working fluid in the transmission of your car is currently being clarified.

    Moscow, Daewoo Nexia

Hello. To replace you will need a clean bucket, heads 10,14,24, hexagon 6, a clean rag, automatic transmission pan gasket, automatic transmission filter, automatic transmission filter O-ring, WS oil, drain plug gasket. The procedure is as follows: unscrew the drain plug with a 14mm head and drain the oil into a bucket, after the glass, install a new gasket and clamp it, with a 10mm head, unscrew the pan mounting bolts, remove the pan, unscrew and remove the automatic transmission filter (before removing the filter, lift the pan, holding it with one hand, remove the filter with the other, drain the oil from the pan into a bucket), lubricate the filter O-ring with new oil, place it on the filter, place the filter on the automatic transmission and clamp it (before installing the filter, make sure it is not damaged). Wipe the pan, magnets (before removing, remember how they were), put the magnets in place, put the gasket and place the pan on the automatic transmission, tighten all the bolts, and tighten them starting from the center to the edges. On the right side of the automatic transmission, closer to the distributor, there is a drain plug, on it there is the inscription WS, press the head at 24, see how much oil has been drained, and pour that much into the filler, then fill the filler, start the car on a flat surface, keeping the brake pedal pressed, walk along all automatic transmission modes, holding each for 2 seconds. when you return to the parking lot, do not turn off the car, unscrew the check plug (hexagon 6) oil should flow in a thin stream (if this does not happen, top up), if the oil flows in a thin stream then clamp the check plug and turn off the car, wipe everything dry, clamp the filler. If you are doing this procedure for the first time, then drive around a little and review everything again to make sure that there are no leaks or fogging anywhere. Note: checking the level must be done at a service station since the check must be carried out at an oil temperature of 45 C, measured with a scanner (you can change it yourself, then go to a service center to check the level, at the same time check for fogging, to be on the safe side).

Good afternoon. As you may have noticed from Dmitry’s answer, the procedure is not so simple, and at some stages it is necessary to connect a diagnostic device. When performing the entire replacement in a specialized service center, all drain and filler plugs will be tightened to the required torque, as required by the manufacturer, and the replacement will be performed by an experienced mechanic who has performed this procedure more than once. In principle, no one doubts your abilities, but if you make small violations in technology, tighten a plug or slightly change the oil level, you can get quite serious problems with the automatic transmission, which you most likely do not need. The unit is very expensive, requiring professional maintenance, precise actions and original spare parts. Therefore, if there is still a financial opportunity, we would recommend having the replacement performed by a good service center. This does not have to be an official dealer, but a fairly good service specializing in Toyota cars, where there is certified equipment and an original Toyota diagnostic tool.
